World's Largest Aquarium, S.E.A. Aquarium Resorts World Sentosa

We have been wanting to visit the S.E.A. Aquarium since it opened last year. We have long looked forward to its opening since we had the chance to try out the The Maritime Experiential Museum™ Typhoon Theatre which serves as a very interesting prelude to the whole aquarium experience. Reading reviews and comments from friends who have been to the place, mentioned, that it does get too crowded especially during weekends. This pretty much discouraged us to going on a weekend. In their website, the weekends are all peak periods together with all school holidays here in Singapore. So we waited for the perfect opportunity and it came during my birthday which was a Tuesday!

The plus of going on non-peak is we get to start in the typhoon theatre for free as it comes with the ticket to the aquarium. And that was exactly how our visit started. The interesting 4D experience of being in a sinking boat because of a storm, then eventually seeing life under the sea is just the perfect way to introduce my son to the beauty of life underwater.

There are too many aquariums in the place with different kinds of sea animals-- one type is by the floor filled with sharks and stingrays. Casey was in fact afraid to walk through the glass at first.

But the crowd magnet was of course the world's largest aquarium! After walking through a good number of aquariums big and small, (filled with different types of marine life from jellyfish, dolphins, crabs and lobsters) one would think the impact of the world's largest wouldn't be as  impressive. Uhmm, wrong!

It was crazy huge! With the number of marine life in the huge aquarium, I'd say the star of the show would be the manta rays. It is freakin' enormous! It was also just our luck, we saw divers feeding the sharks and rays. You can imagine our excitement when we saw huge stingrays flapping it's 'wings'and sharks practically swimming over a diver as he fed him. The pictures just could not justify the massiveness of the place.

I understand some people keep aquariums in their homes because they find it calming to watch their tiny colorful fishes swim behind the glass... imagine one that is a million times bigger! The aquarium had that feel to me. While my husband tried to capture in photos the whole experience, Casey and I spent most of our time sitting by the glass looking at all the fishes, rays and sharks swim by-- it does bring a sense of calm within. Of course, it was also an advantage that there were not too many people around.

It was a wonderful way to spend my birthday afternoon with my family in a different kind of world. It made me realize how big our world is and how many things are left to be discovered. This experience made me grateful for another year of life filled with so much promise to discover and travel. To experience shared happiness with my family who is more than willing to document each adventure and capture every fleeting moment.

It filled me with a heart of gratitude to be able to experience every bit of life's adventure with a husband who share the same passion and wanderlust kid who is growing up to be as adventurous. The  simultaneous 'wows' and 'OMG' experiences as a family is truly an experience in itself that we hope to share with everyone reading this blog.

Let me end this entry with our practical family advice if you do wish to visit the aquarium;

> Try to visit the aquarium on non-peak days or weekdays. Besides getting a better deal with the additional typhoon theatre experience, it is less crowded-- which means you will definitely have a space near the glass for some 'me' time.
> If this is the only place you will visit for the day you may want the stroller to take a rest. Once you are by the biggest aquarium, you will have to leave the stroller by the top stairs so that you can go near the glass.
> Try the corn dog! ;)
