Trick-or-treating in S'pore

We almost didn't push through with this affair. It was heavily pouring rain all day. The sky was filled with dark clouds and it seemed like it just wouldn't cease drizzling. At the last minute, it stopped. We hurriedly put on his pirate outfit (which can double as a swimming trunk thanks to the wife's brilliant idea), head scarf and knee-high boots and commuted towards Marsiling station where we were supposed to meet up with some friends. They already left when we arrived. So we decided to grab some curry puffs, chicken siopao, and bottled water as we didn't have dinner yet. It was our family's first time so we weren't too sure where to go. We followed the crowd with parents tagging along their kids in different costumes and reached the place.

Casey's first house trick-or-treatin' and candies... lady gave him a few and he went back for more. lol

Not sure why this box of crayons is wearing a wizards' hat and carrying a soccer ball...
This neighborhood felt like Little America-- the speech accent overheard from families and friends passing by and gated, landed, and spacious housing structures where reminiscent of the days when I was in California. Various scary-looking characters and outfits clearly showcased the heavy Western influence. One of the greatest villains, Freddie Krueger, was eerily precise from the fedora hat, facial prosthetic mask, striped red and black shirt and the glove razor blades (no, they were hard plastic). I just had to have a photo with him. Both Nina and Casey didn't want any. Haha. Next up was this deformed vampire and ugly witch couple. The guy sensed that Nina was scared of his look. When he tried to get closer to my wife, she screamed and scampered away. Casey ended up crying too. I had to remind Nina and explain to Casey that these were all fake. That there are real people in them and that they were just masks. I'm just glad they conquered their fears and continued on through the night.

It wasn't all scary stuff. We came across Yoda, but still Casey didn't want him. We're glad a banana guy, two popcorn and Starbucks-themed ladies showed up. It lightened up the atmosphere and placed a smile on Casey's face. They made their box of popcorn costumes themselves. I wasn't expecting this kind of number of trick-or-treaters. Cars could barely pass through as throngs of revelers packed the street. There was one house that ran out of candies that they gave out hot-off-the-grill barbeque chicken drumstick and wings instead.

One of the crowd favorite, the grand master of the Jedi Order, Yoda

After past an hour of roaming around ourselves, we stumbled upon some of our community friends. We all, coincidentally, gathered together at one intersection. Casey's tiredness disappeared as he hurried down my shoulders as soon as he saw his buddies. He got to play and walk side by side with them. There was his Captain America (kuya Vincent), Spiderman (kuya Gab), and Finn (his kuya Jed). We all capped the night at a nearby hawker center which we waited more than hour for our dinner. It was a night of fun and laughter anyways, so it didn't matter. Great experience!
